Mentor with Science Firsthand - Partners in Discovery

What –
Science Firsthand connects youth (9 - 14 yrs) with compassionate adults to explore everyday phenomena scientifically. The mentoring relationship is as important to the youth as is the fun of doing science safely with an adult friend.

When-
One hour a week during after school hours (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) for a period of ten weeks to a school year.

Where-
The Collaborative currently consists of 13 community centers

How-
Science Firsthand staff train adults to be co-investigators,
working as partners with one to three middle school youth.

Science areas-

Investigation topics vary according to the interests of the partners. A series of Trial Pursuits are the basis for training of new mentors.
